Our Applied Science practice leverages a unique combination of technologies and expertise to engineer practical solutions to problems of national and international importance. We apply expertise in solid and fluid dynamics, materials science, acoustics, risk assessments and computational simulation methods to solve complex problems. We preform research, mathematical modeling, software development and design to manage risks to life safety in military platforms and installations, ships and submarines, critical infrastructure, tall buildings, public facilities, industrial and petrochemical plants and automotive and airborne vehicles. Military, government, corporate and academic clients' value the validation of Applied Science's software and the critical insights gained from correlating analysis with testing.
Role:
The Aerospace Senior Engineer's role is to develop cutting-edge analysis and decision support software tools. The aerospace engineer will be responsible for developing astrodynamics, guidance, navigation and control (GN&C), and machine learning solutions using agile/scrum software development methodologies. The aerospace engineer will perform evaluations of COTS/GOTS/Open Source software products from business and technical perspectives.
Responsibilities:
* Supports customers' missions in the areas of satellite astrodynamics; guidance, navigation and control; proximity operations; satellite autonomy; and/or space traffic management and situational awareness
* Works as a part of an R&D team in the above mentioned areas
* Publishes research outcomes in leading space systems journals and present the work at premier national and international conferences
Qualifications:
* 2-5 years of experience performing astrodynamics modeling, simulation, and analysis.
* Prior experience using astrodynamics modeling tools including COTS (STK, ODTK, FreeFlyer), GOTS (GMAT, USAF Astro Standards), open source (Orekit), or custom software (e.g. MATLAB, Python).
* Masters or PhD degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field.
* Demonstrated experience with scripting languages to automate astrodynamic computations (MATLAB, Perl, VBScript).
* Ability to perform in a high intensity, quick reaction environment.
Desired skills:
* Experience with specific astrodynamics tasks such as orbit determination, trajectory design and maneuver planning, attitude determination and control, or conjunction assessment and collision avoidance.
* Experience with machine learning solutions and techniques.
* Experience with spacecraft operating in all orbital regimes (LEO, HEO, and GEO).
* Experience with space mission concept studies, or spacecraft system engineering.
* Software development skills and experience using Java, C/C++, Python, .NET, MATLAB, or coding languages.
* Strong oral and written communication skills.
* Active S/TS/SCI security clearance is a plus.
